Peking Duck Hunt
Well, again, a food post.
A dated post too, it was 3 weeks ago (or longer?), I went for a "Peking Duck" hunt for no reason, just suddenly I craved for it. Googled around floggers' blogs but hardly find any flogger blogged about Peking Duck. Strange. The only recommended restaurant that my friend found was Oriental at Jaya 33. We did not head to the restaurant 'cause we were undecided (if we wanted a ducky meal) during the commute and at the end, we walked out from our car in One Utama car park.
Decision (on what to eat) was not made at that time, till we passed by a Chinese restaurant and eventually found out the restaurant serves Peking Duck, no booking needed...
We flipped through the menu...
Ok, it's affordable at RM50, not as high as we were expecting...
Since we must order a full duck, so we really went for a ducky meal with no other dishes. We were recommended to have a noodle for the flesh.
This is how the duck was prepared...
Cut the skin off the body...
Wrap the skin in a egg wrapper topped with a type of sweet sauce together with vegetable (celery??)...
I didn't manage to snap the entire process 'cause the waiters were pretty well trained which they almost finished the process by the time I went to the table outside of the kitchen to take photos. Here's the end product...
Rate: I give 1 out of 5 from "Peking Duck" perspective: the skin was not crispy, a bit chewy and oily; the egg wrappers tasted a little floury; the sweet sauce tasted like those normal sweet sauce you can easily find at any Yong Tau Foo stall, and the duck was not prepared (sliced) in front of us.
However, for the price we paid at RM50 for a duck, I think I should not demand more, so I give 3 out of 5.
Now I started to think about the Peking Ducks that I had in Australia. Perhaps that was the benchmark and expectation I set before I had this meal, the rate might be higher if it was my first time to try Peking Duck.
So, the hunt failed. I will keep on hunting for the best duck in Malaysia.
