Are You Ready For Marriage?
2 days ago I received a letter...
Looks like an informal letter. It has been quite some time I received informal letter like this, I was curious what was it.
It's a "red summon"! Ha!
And I recalled, this is actually an expected summon. My friend called me up, emailed me, YM me, relayed by other's mouth to announce the wedding and the key message my friend wanted to know from me was a confirmation if I would like to be summoned. Haha! Why? Many of them knew a story of mine...
Once upon a time, I received a red bomb like this from someone. I was having hard time to recall who was the person until my friend reminded me. And my immediate reaction was "WTF?! I only talked to that don't-know-is-my-friend-or-not person for NOT more than 4 sentences 3 4 years ago and now as if I am the close friend to deserve the summon?!" Best of all, I realized I got invited just because my name was found in the school alumni magazine!! Those who know me certainly know for sure that no good words would come out from my mouth after my reaction like that. Eventually I "rejected" the red envelope by leaving it in my friend's letterbox and I asked my friend to remind the rest whom I don't-know-is-my-friend-or-not to continue send me invitation if they want to be cursed by me.
Too mean? Too rude? That's just me. Well, very simple rationale I have. The wedding reception should be meant for wishing, blessing and celebrating the newly weds. If I don't know either of them, why am I invited? To earn the angpau? To prove the newly weds and the parents have "big face" that they know many people? And how many people in the dinner really care to bless and wish the newly weds? Or just the sake to wallop as much as possible all the dishes since it's paid (with the summon)? Or blessing in mouth cursing in heart? Bla bla bla... I just don't understand. Anyway, I always limit my attendance for such dinners to only close friends (feel so sorry to miss out the dinner of my two buddies) and since then, no one dare to send me such envelope until they got the green light from me. Hehe...
But, this wasn't the case for this envelope. This one is from a close friend of mine and I decided to attend the dinner even before I received the envelope. The friend got all my blessing and wishes for the marriage, glad and happy to hear the friend's finally got married. Haha, finally! :P
I was so happy and laugh in my heart not only because I was honored with the invitation, but also coincidentally I stumbled at Sin Chew Daily and found few marriage related articles:
No doubt I am not illustrating either or both articles reflect my friend. Certainly the couple has the best wishes and blessing from me. But sometimes different things just come along in life at the right timing and relate one to another to give you a smile or laugh. Perhaps I shall share the articles with my friend and see how's the response. Hehe...
If you are getting married soon, may I recommend you to have a look? :)
